OUR HISTORY
Background
Content Analyst Company was formed in 2004 to develop and market commercial applications of a proprietary technology that conceptually analyzes, organizes, and retrieves relevant information from large repositories of unstructured data.
From 1998 through 2000, an R&D program was conducted to apply a key technology, Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), to provide superior advanced search capabilities. During this period, several federal agencies were engaged to explore applications of this technology of particular interest to the US Intelligence Community. From 2001 through 2002, a complete software framework was implemented to facilitate the use of this technology in Text Analytics applications. In 2003, a marketing communications firm was engaged to brand the software as Content Analyst, and began to pursue license sales of the product. The product today encompasses a broad range of capabilities, with LSI representing a small but important proportion (approx. 5%) of total Content Analyst IP.
History
Below is an overview of the history of Content Analyst. Content Analyst provides a broad range of advanced search capabilities, and the recognized need for those capabilities merits entry into the commercial market.
Pre 1998 – Original patents and IP invented at Bell Labs. Acquired by SAIC/Telcordia Technologies.
1998 - In response to terrorist attacks against two US embassies in Africa, work expanded on systems to aid intelligence organizations, initiating a text analytics R&D Program, initially focused on the ability to analyze foreign language data, including Arabic.
1999 - The CIA creates In-Q-Tel, an organization designed to invest in promising technologies to solve particularly difficult IT problems in the Intelligence Community. From among over 300 proposals, the panel selected Content Analyst's text analytics proposal to receive $4.2 million of the $8 million contracted that year.
2000-2001 - Original LSI software re-coded in a modern, standards-based environment (J2EE). Conceptual matching and categorization capabilities are developed. Emphasis is placed on development of robust advanced search application software. Additional patent applications are filed. Three Beta versions are tested, one in fraud detection, one in automated metatag creation, and one in prioritization of documents for translation and analysis.
2001 - The Department of Defense (DoD) funds major applications for counterterrorism following 9/11. Program management office is created to focus on development of a robust implementation of LSI with the infrastructure necessary for large applications.
2002 - R&D work results in significant extensions in text analytics capabilities and improvements in performance. License sales of the product begin.
2004 - Content Analyst Company, LLC, was established in November 2004 when a private investor group acquired a majority interest in the company. SAIC still remains as a minority investor and remarkets Content Analyst’s software into the government market. Content Analyst began focusing on commercial markets to broaden the reach and appeal of our technology.
Today – Content Analyst provides companies with a competitive advantage, enabling them to quickly identify and act on meaningful information hidden within large repositories of documents and data. Additional patents were awarded and others are pending.
