"How Analytics Works" in eDiscovery

Defending Concept Driven Analytics

Powering an Integrated Analytics Platform

There are a variety of powerful tools available to litigation professionals that accelerate discovery and address the sheer volume of material requiring attention or review. There are routines that group nearly-identical documents together and permit a "bulk-tagging" and bulk review. There are products that identify the longest or "most inclusive" email, allowing reviewers to focus only on that document versus the dozens of emails that may have composed it. There are products that automatically organize ESI, other products that highlight conceptually-similar sentences or paragraphs, and products that identify foreign languages.

Most modern review platforms and litigation support products offer a range of these features within their overall platform. The challenge is that the software driving these features is often from several other vendors, and limits the flexibility of how those features are delivered. Do you look at email conversations or threads before you try to cull-out duplicate documents? Can you identify foreign languages as you encounter them, or is it a batch-process? Often, the workflow for the platform is dictated by the subroutines being used to perform these functions.

CAAT provides a different approach. CAAT's functions are all based on a set of core capabilities and algorithms. CAAT is deployed as a "toolkit" to software providers – they can "call" any of CAAT's capabilities at any point in their workflow or processes. CAAT's capabilities interoperate with one another, and accommodate the realities of today's litigation and discovery. Not all the documents which need to be reviewed are usually produced at the same point. Email threading run on one group of documents might show missing emails that another group provides later in the process. Foreign language documents might be present even though the client thinks they are not.

As an integrated analytics platform, CAAT accommodates these challenges with ease. Software developers can work with a single platform and deploy any aspect of analytics anytime it is required and following the "look-and-feel" of their applications. CAAT removes the constraints of deploying several discrete analytics products and enables a seamless review platform.
