Compliance

Compliance

Compliance takes many forms in business, from Sarbanes-Oxley declarations that a company's balance sheets have been certified for accuracy and transparency to HIPPA regulations that guarantee patient privacy while making their electronic health records accessible to different organizations.

Companies have had stringent compliance rules in many aspects of their businesses for a decade or longer, and have designed specific workflows around ensuring compliance.

The complication in today's business climate is that electronic correspondence (i.e., email) has become a primary information source in its own right. While a company's spreadsheets may be properly managed for compliance, any challenge will involve review of associated communications. Since it's nearly impossible to apply the same compliance guidelines to such correspondence, the ramifications on downstream activities, like E-discovery, are significant.

Content Analytics, on the other hand, provides a mechanism to accurately identify the subject of such correspondence the first time it is encountered; i.e., at the time of creation. Content Analytics can also identify the applicability of such information, so it can be managed within the confines of the company's compliance guidelines.
